TIP TUESDAY: How to Straighten Wire for Jewelry Making Hack

Heather Boyd Wire here and
this week I’m starting a new series called Tip Tuesday’s so every Tuesday
I’m gonna bring you a tip that you can use for your wire art and jewelry making
now this week the tip is very simple so sometimes you find these little crinkly
pieces of wire in your stuff and you want to know how to straighten them out
so sometimes I just use a soft cloth or a Kleenex but the thing that also works
is one of these eyeglass cleaners that you get from the optometrist and all you
really have to do is just take your wire and just smooth it out with the soft
cloth now if you have a stiffer wire like this is an old piece of
copper and it’s a little bit tarnished so for that kind of wire you can get one
of these special polishing cloths this one I’ve had since the early 90s
when I started selling jewelry on the streets of Montreal and all it is is one
side is red and this side has the chemical in it and then the other
side is yellow and it kind of buffs the wire so all you’re going to do is hold
your wire and just pull it like that and really squeeze it between your thumb and
your finger and you’re gonna see it looks a little bit kind of greyish but
then when you flip the cloth over and use the yellow side it’s gonna sparkle
it right up so this stuff I would definitely wash your hands after you use
it because it might be a little bit toxic but it definitely works very
well for the tarnished copper wire thanks so much for watching the video if
you have any suggestions or tips and tricks for fellow jewelry makers put
them in the comments below and I could feature you in one of my future videos

  1. I like the idea of a tip series! This will be great to see!! I had a new roll of (I think it was) 24 gauge wire that Oreo got ahold of when he was a puppy (maybe it was last winter?) and he chewed it up. I ended up throwing it out but now Iโ€™m kicking myself wondering if I could have saved some of it with the eye glass rag. Oh well, but itโ€™s definitely good to know for the future! Is there a recommendation for what gauge wire to use the wire straighteners on? The 24 gauge seemed to be too fragile so I didnโ€™t even try…

  2. Thanks for tips, had a laugh when watching with the subtitles "hey there Heather boy Dwyer here" YouTube translated for you ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
