Simpson Door Company Debuts New Designs for Curb Appeal & Interior Style

Karen LeBlanc, The Design Tourist here on
location with Simpson Door Company. They have a real talent for designing custom
doors so first I’m going to take you inside the New American Home is the show home on
tour during Design and Construction Week which features Simpson doors. Hi Phil how are you
Thanks for having me I have to point out these stunning doors by
Simpson Door Company. They are custom you worked with the company
to design these exclusive to the home I have to point out these stunning doors by
Simpson Door Company. They are custom you worked with the company
to design these exclusive to the home Yes We designed this concept so the front
door and this is the main door are sort of a reverse design in this beautiful walnut
and they just are a phenomenal product and we have two sets, the first door contributes
to its curb appeal and the second set leads to the great room
The design was to use these horizontal pieces and you can see into the house from this one
on the street side is reverse so its minimal you can’t see through the house but it has
that same sort of design element The front door is a key design element that
gives its own curb appeal and Simpson Door Company has one of the latest looks, the pivot
door and I’ve got to tell you, I’ve seen it in show homes and the best interior design
magazines but you have an oversized pivot door
Simpson: yes, thanks for being here. Its really fun, especially if you have a special
space in the home or maybe it’s the front of the house and you are wanting to make a
big impact to visitors coming to your home. We have a really big door, five feet wide,
eight feet tall. It’s on pivot hardware, notice how it opens. Its two and a quarter thick, Obviously a very
heavy door and when its on this pivot hardware it glides very easily with the touch of a
finger The flush door is another sought after style
in today’s modern looks and simpson door company has a fresh interpretation of the
flush door That’s right, when we are talking about
wood doors, a lot of people think that is has to be real traditional—a six panel,
raised panel look. It doesn’t have to be that way. I’m in front of, for example, a door that
is real contemporary perfect for a midcentury remodel this particular door is made out of
cheery it’s beautiful also this glass texture lets natural light through but its private
so you can have any size shape. I tell you what, we are not making this door
like my grandma’s flush door anymore. Now the flush door offers a lot of creative
possibilities at Simpson Door company Absolutely, a lot of flexibility in design,
you can have this door in any wood species with any glass texture, any size, put the
windows wherever you want And for those who have a harder time designing
something, we have tools on our website on simpsondoor.com
The barn door remains a popular look in the home, partly because there is so much versatility
as a design element Simpson: There is. When a door is one hinges it opens up into
the room so this not only looks really beautiful but it’s a real space saver. really this door becomes part of the art on
the wall in the home Doors on barn track really the fact that they
are sliding back and forth but in terms of the door style you use, really you can use
any style whether it’s contemporary like the one here or very rustic like an old barn here
So your doors are built to withstand any harsh conditions that mother nature dishes out with
this water barrier technology Simpson: Sure when someone orders a really
nice door, it’s like a fine piece of furniture. Unless you have a terrific porch or overhang
you are going to be fine but if you don’t, you need to look at certain upgrades that
ensure that door lasts as long as the house So how does this water barrier technology
work? On the outside we have a medium density overlay
, its a resin impregnated overlay that blocks out all moisture all weather, than on the
inside of the door you still have the beauty of wood for any interior or design. For more design ideas and inspiration, check
