Pinwheels for Prevention with Chris Whitsell at Adanta

[Chris Whitsell, Adanta] Actually choosen six to put out this year. I know that there have been different strategies
in the past but we really want to raise awareness to the Kentucky Strengthening Families Protective
Factors. And there’s six factors that research has
shown that if we can be much more intentional and mindful in all of our interactions with
our community’s families, we can really do a great deal to reduce the impact of the distress
all our families experience. I just wanted to highlight those six real
quick. And the first one is Parental Resilience. We believe families can bounce back. We all endure times of stress and difficulties
but we also value resiliency in our families and community as well. The second is Social Connections. Families have friends that they can count
on and they can count on one another, support one another that can go a great distance. And really help us to make it through tough
times, stressful times. Thirdly the Knowledge of Child Development,
families learn how their children grow and develop so the more knowledge families have
about how our kids grow and how our families grow, having that information can be very
helpful, especially at those times of stress. Fourth, Concrete Support in Times of Need. We all go through periods of time when we
all have certain types of needs so we can identify specific types of ways to assist
our families and help meet basic needs. That within itself can be a great help. Fifth, the Social and Emotional Competence
of our Children. Families teach children how to have healthy relationships. We’re all models for our families and if our
families feel more confident by having this knowledge and having this support we can model
ways of having better relationships within our families. And finally, a sense of Nurturing and Attachment. Just how important nurturing and attachment
is, in our families and that our children feel loved and safe. So that’s the significance of the six. This is a statewide initiative and philosophy
of care that the Adanta Group promotes throughout its entire continuum of care and we felt like
it was something we really wanted to highlight. This month in particular with our Child Abuse
Prevention Awareness. Thank you all so much for coming today and
being a part of our awareness and recognition. [Wanda Washington, ADANTA] Thank you Chris. [Zac Oakes, CKNJ] All right everybody, one, two, three! [Laughter]
