Pablo Picasso and Marcel Mouly Come to the Monthaven Arts Center

Well, it’s very exciting to have the Park
West Foundation bring us an exhibition of this quality. One of the really great things about this
exhibition is the pairing of Marcel Mouly and Picasso’s edition ceramics. We have 64 of Picasso’s ceramics, and we are
surrounded with the work of a great artist like Marcel Mouly. His work is exciting, it’s colorful. It was the perfect pairing, a really great
combination. I think most people have not really been that
aware of Picasso’s ceramics because he was so prolific and the paintings were so startling
that most people never move past that. They didn’t know about the etchings, or the
lithographs, or linocuts, and they certainly didn’t know about the ceramics, which were
really the unsung part of his legacy. Ceramics in this exhibition come from the
Park West Museum, which has been compiling the largest Picasso ceramics collection anywhere
on the planet. Having Marcel Mouly was a terrific addition. He knew Picasso, and they did show together,
and there’s a photograph in there at a group show in Paris. What we also have as a selection of works
from the Vollard Suite and it’s considered by many art historians as Pablo Picasso’s
masterpiece in graphic form. Park West has been wonderful to us. We could not do the things that we do today
if it weren’t for the Park West Foundation. I really hope our patrons leave here with
a real feeling that this was a once in a lifetime experience. I want to thank Park West for this. Can you guys believe that we have a Picasso
exhibit here? Isn’t that amazing? And if you go in and you take a look at this,
it’s very magical. It has a lot of personality, and I can’t think
of a better place to see that kind of work than in the intimate surroundings of Monthaven.
