Olympic Torch made from a cardboard tube

Hi, this is Joelle Meijer. Here is a simple olympic torch made with a
cardboard tube! Take a fairly thin cardboard tube. Paint the
tube in a colour of your choice. If like me, you want a golden torch, here’s
what I suggest you do. Since gold paint is rather transparent, first
put a coat of ocher paint. When the ocher paint is dry, put one or two
coats of gold paint. Let dry. Then take yellow, orange and red tissue paper. Cut out squares or rectangles in these three
colours. The tissue paper will represent the flame
on top of the Olympic torch. Cut squares of increasing size. The red square
is the smallest. Then the orange square is medium size and
finally the yellow square is the biggest. Take the yellow tissue paper and place a finger
in the middle. Then take the orange tissue paper and wrap
it around the yellow tissue paper and finally take the red tissue paper and
wrap it around the orange tissue paper. This gives you a colour sequence that forms
the flame. Put white glue on top of the tube and insert
the centre of the tissue paper flame in the tube. Let dry. If you want to make a little more sophisticated
torch, also start with a fairly thin cardboard tube. Then draw a circle on thick cardboard. Cut
out the cardboard circle. Now place the tube in the centre of the cardboard
circle and trace the outline of the tube.
Cut out the inside circle. The hole of the inside circle should be approximately
the same size as the tube. Glue the cardboard circle on top of the tube
with white glue. Let dry. Paint the torch in a colour of your choice
and continue the project the same way as the first torch to create the flame with
tissue paper. If you organize mini Olympic Games with children,
start with a Torch Relay. Don’t forget to share your Olympic torches
