  1. Take this pink ribbon off my eyes
    I'm exposed
    And it's no big surprise
    Don't you think I know
    Exactly where I stand
    This world is forcing me
    To hold your hand
'Cause I'm just a girl, little ol' me
Well don't let me out of your sight
Oh, I'm just a girl, all pretty and petite
So don't let me have any rights
Oh, I've had it up to here!

The moment that I step outside
    So many reasons
For me to run and hide
I can't do the little things
    I hold so dear
'Cause it's all those little things
    That I fear

    'Cause I'm just a girl
    I'd rather not be
'Cause they won't let me drive
    Late at night
    Oh I'm just a girl
Guess I'm some kind of freak
'Cause they all sit and stare
    With their eyes
    Oh I'm just a girl
Take a good look at me
    Just your typical prototype
Oh, I've had it up to here!

Oh, am I making myself clear?

    I'm just a girl
I'm just a girl in the world
That's all that you'll let me be!

Oh I'm just a girl, living in captivity
    Your rule of thumb
    Make me worry some
Oh I'm just a girl, what's my destiny?
    What I've succumbed to
    Is making me numb
Oh I'm just a girl, my apologies
What I've become is so burdensome
Oh I'm just a girl, lucky me
    Twiddle-dum there's no comparison

Oh, I've had it up to!
Oh, I've had it up to!!
Oh, I've had it up to here

  2. I first saw this video on a VHS tape in the Gadzooks I worked in. The extremely pregnant chick skanking in the corner was always a highlight of my day

  3. I grow up hearing her. But I wasn't allowed to watch mtv when I was little , so I never watched the music video until today . (I'm 24 years old)

  4. This song brings back so many memories. I was 13 when this song came out. It was interesting time LOL I just became a teen. This to me was the best song at the time.

  5. I remember my mom playing this song everyday when I was a kid, I used to hate it so much now it's one of my favorite songs even tho I'm a guy😅

  6. I had SUCH a crush on her in HS when No Doubt blew up and this came out, and yet I was gay lol go figure. I just loved everything about her. She rocks tho even to this day, a fan from the beginning and I'm so grateful to have grown up in time when No Doubt was around. My only gripe that kinda saddened me was I never expected her to be someone to change her face so much, but hey she's still beautiful tho.

  7. If you're a guy and didn't have a crush on Gwen Stefani at some point, you're probably gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

  8. I'm just a girl…

…singing about how repressed I am whilst fronting a world famous rock band. Yah. Duh pAtrIarcHy…

  9. No Doubt and Gwen helped me through some rough moments, her music rocked me when I was feeling low. We are both Gen X…her songs kick ass! Thank u Gwen for your music and the memories I had in my 20s!

  10. I remember the song 'Don't Speak' and I was like who is this girl. I ran out and bought the CD because I had never seen a girl be the lead in a band of boys in the the way she did… she appeared to be one of the guys but pretty and no one in the band was fazed by it. Even though Gwen successfully crossed-over into different genres of music with a solo career, I think her most memorable work is right here with the band.

  11. As an adult woman, I’m discovering that these lyrics really hit closer to home than when I initially heard this song as a kid :/
    Big emotions right now.

  12. well, it's 2019 and we girls are still fighting the psychological prison that it's imposed on us since we are born…
There are women that want to be a man, act like a man etc and others just want to be accepted by men…
I say fight for your place in this world and don't act like a man but let men know you know where you stand…

  13. Late 90's. Me singing this song over and over again in front of a large mirror there was in my living room. CD player and MTV. Those were the days of my life back then. Loved her style and voice when I was a teenager and I still do ♥️

  14. Pharell was not the best music producer in the world. And that started more than a little fire in Southern California. The guys putting the fires out became targets for mean people called "dick sucking gays" according to historical fact.

  15. I look like the beautiful Gwen Stefani but nobody sees it but my soon to be ex husband!! Oh the irony and yeah I really do think!! I am just "A girl"! Long live the Queen Gweneth of England!! She Kicks ass ask Blake Shelt
