Mommy Monday: Halloween Arts and Crafts with Jenn Press Arata

TERESA: MONDAYS ARE FOR THE MOMMIES AND TODAY WE ARE TAKING OUR FRIEND JEN OUT OF THE KITCHEN TO DO SOME HALLOWEEN CRAFTS. RYAN: WELCOME BACK, A PITIFUL SPREAD OF TREATS HERE. JEN: OUT OF THE KITCHEN AND INTO THE CORNER. TERESA: TALK ABOUT HALLOWEEN, IT IS HALLOWEEN CENTRAL. TAKE A LOOK AT HER HOUSE. SHE ALWAYS THERE IS A FUN PARTY EVERY YEAR, REAL GHOSTS AND GOBLINS IN THE WINDOWS. THEY JUST COME OUT FOR THE HOLIDAYS. WE HAVE A FLOATING CANDLE CEILING, THIS IS OUR VERY COOL BAR AREA SET UP. THIS IS THE CANDY DESSERT TABLE. YOU HAVE BEEN THERE, WE DO NOT MISS A BEAT. AND EVEN THE YARD. RYAN: HOW MUCH TIME GOES INTO THIS? JEN: A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT. RYAN: DANG. TERESA: MOVING ON TO THE CHILDREN’S PART. JEN: THE BEST PART IS TRICK OR TREATING. WE CREATED THESE AWESOME BAGS. THE GLOW IN THE DARK. YOU CAN SEE YOUR KIDS, AND BEST OF ALL THEY CAN FIND THEIR CANDY. OK, SO FIRST OF ALL WE HAVE THESE GREAT CANVAS BAGS THAT YOU CAN’T GET AT THE CRAFT STORE. THIS CAME IN A PACKAGE OF THREE. AND I HAVE THESE WOODEN LETTERS, WE ARE SPELLING OUT “BOO.” DID YOU SEE THIS? YOU PEEL IT OFF AND IT IS A LITTLE ADHESIVE. PUSH IT DOWN SO IT IS SEMIPERMANENT. RYAN: WHERE WERE THESE WITH OUR SCHOOL PROJECTS? JEN: WE HAVE THE FOAM BRUSHES, ALL DIFFERENT WIDTHS. I AM USING A SMALLER ONE. AND THEN THAT IS IT. RYAN: YOU GO AROUND IT. TERESA: YOU GO AROUND. JEN: IF YOU GO UNDER YOU WILL LOSE THE SHAPE OF THE LETTER. SO PUSHING AND MAKING WHATEVER DESIGN YOU LIKE. WE HAVE CONTINUED TO GO OUTWARD. WE ARE MAKING FLAMES. AND THEN THIS VERY SPOOKY FEEL. AND THEN AFTERWARDS, TAKE A DETAILED BRUSH LIKE THESE LITTLE ONES AND YOU ARE GOING TO ACCENTUATE AROUND TO REALLY DEFINE THE LETTER. THE MORE LAYERS YOU DO, THE MORE IT WILL SHOUT AND GLOW. RYAN: DO YOU HAVE GREAT? — GREEN? JEN: I HAVE A CHECK WITH THE GREEN. AND MY PUMPKIN. MINI PUMPKINS, WE ARE USING IT AS A STAMPER. TERESA: THAT IS SO CUTE. RYAN: CHECK THAT OUT. JEN: GLOW-IN-THE-DARK PAINT. TAKE ANY DESIGN YOU WANT AND YOU CAN PRINT PICTURES OFF-LINE AND YOU WILL DEFINE IT WITH THE OUTLINE. YOU CAN MAKE A PUMPKIN. TERESA: I LOVE IT. JEN: THEN PAINT IT. SO INSTEAD OF THE MASKS WITH PUMPKINS, PAINT THESE AND MAKE THEM GLOW.
