LoC_ Exploring Art through Drama Therapy Seminars Athens

Hello! This is Life of Culture, I’m Alex and today we’re at the Centre of Systemic Therapy and Research in Athens with Loukia Apostolides
and Mary Kardari, who are organizing a series of seminars. Four consecutive Tuesdays starting on the 26h of November, where
they will work on Drama Therapy. Drama therapy will be our tool, in order to
analyze four art movements. Oh, all right! So, you will explore these art movements through Drama Therapy. I am throwing the ball this way. This is the ball we use in all these seminars,
in order to speak. We will work on four “famous” art movements. You may also see them here. Ok, I have your flyer in front of me. These art movements are Romanticism, Realism/Naturalism,
Dadaism and Surrealism. In order to introduce you straight away to
the experiential approach of these seminars, please read out loud this question here. OK, the question says “How do I live my life”? Excellent. One of our goals in Drama Therapy is to learn
how to express oneself in ways other than verbally. Therefore, we will ask you now to answer this
question by creating a sculpture. Whatever it is that comes to you spontaneously
and instinctively. Nice, where is the clay? There is no clay! It’s a body sculpture. Oh, come on guys! Oh, please love. Come on stand up. How do you think you live your life? How is that expressed through your body? Very interesting. You may now unfreeze. That’s how you live your life then. Let’s please not analyze this right now. No, it’s not the time. How does this help me though in my routine? I did what you asked me, what happens next? Moving forward in the seminar’s environment
where there is the necessary time, we would analyze how one feels their body, why one
feels that way, how others perceive this, does one perceive it the same way as others
communicating the information we would like? It’s something that obviously requires time,
plenty of work and we don’t just stay on this body sculpture but there are further exercises. Such as the one we will ask you to do now
for example, in order to connect it with the first one. Please pick one of the aforementioned art
movements. Whichever you fell that you mostly connect
with. I will go with Surrealism, it’s on the 17th
and it’s my luck number. Super easy, as you chose Surrealism, here
is a piece of paper, here are colours and you have 3 seconds to draw a symbol. Anything? Whatever pops into your head. Surrealism? Yes, don’t think much. As we see here, our dear Alex can express
himself with more fantasy and play, instead of having to explain verbally. Now please give us a title for your symbol. “The Hugger”. Oh, that’s lovely! Very nice. We create art at the same time as you can
see, so that is why we decided to connect Drama Therapy with art, which is part of our
lives anyway. It’s time for the third exercise, which introduces
us the concept of relating to others another concept we work on during the seminars. Could you create a sculpture with us two? Pick a word from the list. They are all Surrealist ideas, since you have
picked this movement. Dream, subconscious, illusion, reality… You should know that this will be how our
video ends and I’m going to leave you there standing. Say your goodbyes until I come up with what
I’m creating. What should we say? Where people can find out more about your
seminars… Visit psychotherapycenter.gr our website or
on our facebook page. Find out facebook event “Drama Therapy in
Four Art Movements” and now… I want to know what word did you chose. I will let you know at the end. I want you to do this and you do this. And this video has come to its end with the
idea of anti-conformity! Bye girls of Drama Therapy!
