JEEP-BOAT-JEEP – Comment se rendre de La Fortuna à Monteverde (Costa Rica) | Alex & MJ – On the GO

Today will be a quick one! It’s a short video
for some of you who are thinking of coming to
Costa Rica sometime soon or later on. We want to give you our tips regarding how to get from one specific place to another that will probably hear a lot about when you start making your research about the country. Those two places are: La Fortuna and Monteverde. La Fortuna is the volcanic region
where we were last week and Monteverde is the cloud forest. The hill in the clouds? It just means there’s a lout of clouds
so it’s not as sunny all the time. The reason why we want to give you our tips on how to get from one place to the other is because on a map, both are pretty close to one and other. But because they are separated by a lake, it’s a bit tricky to get to one place or the other. So to get there you have three options: You can either drive (so you need a rental car). So you drive from La Fortuna to Santa Elena (Monteverde) which takes about 3.5 hours. Option 2: take the bus. It doesn’t cost much but it will take very long! According to the blogs we read,
it takes about 8 to 9 hours. The last option, which is the one we decided to do, is called the Jeep-boat-Jeep. It’s a door to door service: they pick you up at your accommodation and they drop you off at your next accommodation. It cost $25 US per person which is very fair for the service you get. It takes 3.5 hours which is the same as
if you had a rental car. You get picked up in the morning at your accommodation by a driver and he grabs your name. Reservations are done online (we’ll put the link in the description). The driver will stop by a few different
hostels to pick people up. I think the van can only fit 7 or 8 people. It’s a 20 minutes drive to Lake Arenal. That’s where you catch the boat. To cross the lake it’s about a 30-45 minutes boat ride. You get in the boat, put your bags down and find a seat. It was pretty rainy the day we went so we didn’t get to see much but it was a beautiful gray. Supposedly it’s very pretty so if you do the trip, we wish you beautiful weather! It’s when you get to the other side of the lake that you see how well this operation is organized. Because all the bags are stacked in front of the boat, there’s a guy in charge of handing them to people. He takes one bag at a time, shows it as if it was Sinbad in the Lion King and if it’s your bag, you go get it. That way, there’s no traffic jam. Not everyone is trying to get off the boat at the same time to get their bags and hop in the next shuttle. Now comes the time to use the little piece of paper that you were handed at the beginning of the trip. The number on the piece of paper corresponds to the shuttle you’re in. There’s about 60 people and not all of them are going to the same place. We had #1, so we went to shuttle #1. You give your bag to the driver and that’s it! You get in the van and then it’s a
2 hour ride on bumpy roads. We called this an “African Massage” when
we were in Africa. It’s small dirt roads and yes, they are very bumpy! But the awesome thing is that they
drop you off at your accommodation. The driver forgot to drop us off at our hostel. Alex panicked a little bit. He was like: “Hey, we’re not where we’re suppose to be.” He’s going to bring us at the right place now. It’s as if we got picked up in someone’s arms and he brought us from point A to Z. Fantastic. We’ve been in Monteverde for 2 days. We were here to shoot a video for FlipTFO. We went zip-lining! Yay, something related to heights! I’m flying! I’m flying! That’s something you will see in a few weeks. That’s it! We warned you, it was going to be quick! We hope it’ll help some of you for your trip to Costa Rica! See you guys next time, ciao! In Monteverde there’s a tree…that’s empty. You can climb in it. It’s free. That’s what we’re going to go check out now. Is it in the forest? I think so. Want to check out the map?
– Yea. It doesn’t look like it’s by the road. It’s like right here. It’s a tree. Chances are it’s in the forest.
– There’s a trail, let’s go see. Is it many trees? I think it’s that one. There’s a bug. It’s really big. I can go under it. I think that’s it. I confirm that it’s that one. Looks like there are things to climb inside. It’s like a playground! So MJ is up there. I’m at the top! This is the way down. I went really high! I was all the way up there. Where the monkeys hang out! Yea well, you’re a monkey.
