How to Make Iron-On T Shirt Designs : How to Apply an Iron-On Transfer to a T Shirt

Hi, I’m Chris owner of Salon Teez, for Expert
Village, this is how to create your own iron on t-shirt. Now we’re ready to place our transfer
on the t-shirt and where we want it. Typically we’ll want to have it center. But we can place
our transfer anywhere that we want to on the t-shirt. For this transfer because it’s a
little bit smaller, I’ll actually place it up in the right hand upper, right hand corner
of the t-shirt. Once I have the transfer centered in place where I want it, my iron has been
pre-heated on a hot cotton setting and I’ll begin to apply the heat to the backing of
the transfer. Make sure that the transfer is facing up. And I’ll just begin applying
the heat to the edges of the transfer first. Working the heat all the way around the transfer.
I’m applying a good amount of pressure here on very very hot setting. I’m not using steam.
And once I’ve gone around the edges, I’ll just begin to iron the transfer over making
sure that I get even heat distribution across the middle of the transfer to each edge so
that all of the ink gets transferred to the t-shirt. Most transfers that we create will
actually be a cold peel transfer. That means once the heat has been applied we’ll let that
cool for a couple of minutes and then we’ll remove the backing. I’ll apply heat evenly
across the transfer for about 30 seconds or so. Making sure that the entire transfer is
heated properly and that all of the ink gets transferred to the t-shirt so I have no lifting
either in the middle or on the edges of the shirt. I’ll let that cool for a couple of
minutes, until it’s cool to the touch. It’s a little hot right now and then we’ll remove
the backing.
