How To Make A Double Z Fold Card

How To Make A Double Z Fold Card

Hello my friends! Today I have another easy
fun fold card idea that I want to share with you. It is called a double Z fold card. Well,
it’s actually two Z folds in one card. Hi, it’s Lynn Dunn from Stamptastic Designs. Thanks
so much for joining me today. In this episode of Stamptastic TV, you will learn how to make
a double z fold card. We will be creating a regular z fold card and then adding another
z fold piece, which is half the size of the first one in order to create this fun interactive
card. Now the cards featured in this video showcase the Stampin’ Up! Perennial Essence
designer series paper, but keep in mind that you can use any stamps set or any patterned
papers you have on hand to create this fun fold card. Just get creative with it. By the
end of this video, you will have a simple fun fold card that you can create for just
about any occasion. And of course I will share some fun tips with you as well. For the latest

Okay, so first let’s talk about the supplies you will need to create this card. So you
are going to need some type of patterned papers. So I’m choosing to use some of the gorgeous
patterned paper from the perennial essence designer series paper pack from Stampin Up.
But you can really use any patterned paper that you have on hand. Now you will also need
some card stock that coordinates with your patterned papers. So for this card I am using
some blushing bride card stock. I am also using some white card stock for the accent
pieces on this card. I am also using one of the greetings or sentiments from the floral
essence stamp set. You will also need some ink. So I am using blackberry bliss.
I also decided to do a little bit of embellishing on the card, so I’m going to be using some
of the vanilla trim, some of this lace trim as well as some pearls. And the last thing
I recommend is using some type of shape to cut out the greeting or the sentiment that
we’re going to put on the card. So I’m using one of the stitched, um, dies, but you can
use a punch or die, um, or you can just cut out a little square using your paper trimmer.
Alright, I think that’s it. Let’s get started. Okay, so let’s start by creating the z folds,
which will make up the base of the card and the insert for the card. Now if you’ve made
a z fold card before, the concept for creating the double z fold is exactly the same. The
only difference is the size cardstock we’re going to use to create the interactive inside
piece of the card. So drop me a comment below and let me know
if you have made a z fold card before or if this is completely new to you. So you will
need one, eight and a half by 11 inch piece of card stock in order to create double z
fold card. So let’s start by creating the large z fold first. So this is the base of
the card. So we will be cutting an eight and a half by 11 inch piece of blushing bride
card stock in half. So start by placing the card stock in your paper trimmer so that we
can cut the 11 inch side. Now cut the cardstock in half at five and a half inches. You will
end up with two pieces of cardstock measuring five and a half by eight and a half inches.
So you’re going to set aside one of these pieces for now.
So score the card stock on the eight and a half inch side at two and an eighth and four
and a quarter inches. Now fold the card stock in half at four and a quarter inches. Now
fold the card stock on the 2 and an eight inch score line except you’re gonna fold this
piece back on top of itself so that it creates a flap on the card front and it exposes part
of the inside of the card. Alright, there you go. Now you’ve created the basic z fold
card design. Okay, now let’s create the small z fold section. So you’re going to grab that
other piece of blushing bride card stock that measures five and a half by eight and a half
inches. You’re going to cut this piece in half on the five and a half inch side place
the five and a half inch side in your paper trimmer.
Line it up at the two and three quarter inch mark and cut the card stock in half. You will
end up with two pieces of card stock that are two and three quarter by eight and a half
inches. Now set this piece aside, you only need one of the pieces to make this card.
So score, the card stock on the eight and a half inch side at 2 and an eight and four
and a quarter inches. Now fold the cardstock in half at four and a quarter inches. Fold
the two and an eighth inch scored cardstock section back on top of itself so that it looks
like the letter z. So it’s the same concept as creating the base of the card you’re just
using a smaller piece. Alright, so there you go. We’ve just created the two Z fold pieces
for this card. Now to create the double z fold card, we will be adhering the smaller
piece to the larger one, but before we do that, I want to share a little tip with you.
So although both of the pieces have the exact same measurements for the score lines, we
cannot adhere them together by matching up those score lines. Instead we actually have
to turn the smaller z fold section around as we will be adhering the long part of this
piece to the front flap of the card base and the small part of this piece to the inside
of the card. So the middle section of the smaller piece will not be adhered to anything.
It will just accordion fold within the card. Now before we adhere these pieces together,
we to decorate the card. No, don’t worry. I will walk you through the assembly of this
card as we decorate it. Okay. Let’s start by decorating the base of the z fold card,
which is the larger of the two Z folds that we just created. So start with the five and
a half by eight and a half inch piece of blushing bride cardstock.
Now we already folded this card stock, but just in case it came undone, fold the card
stock in half on the four and a quarter inch score line. Then fold on the two and eighth
inch score line so that the card stock rests back on top of itself. This creates a small
flap on the card front and exposes part of the inside of the card. Now cut a five and
a quarter by one and seven eighths inch piece of patterned paper and adhere it to the outer
flap of the card front. Next cut another piece of patterned paper at five and a quarter by
four inches and adhere it to the inside of the card. Okay, let’s set this card base to
the side for the moment so that we can decorate the smaller z fold. Now take the smaller z
fold and lay the card stock piece flat in front of you.
Cut a two and a half by four inch piece of patterned paper and adhere it to the large
panel of this piece of cardstock. Cut another piece of patterned paper at one in seven eighths
by two and a half inches and adhere to the second panel on the card stock. And finally
cut a piece of white card stock at one and seven eighths by two and a half inches and
adhere to the last panel on this piece of card stock. Alright, now we are ready to assemble
the double z fold. So the first thing you’re going to do is accordion fold that small z
fold so that the large section with the patterned paper is on top. Keep the card stock according
folded and flip it over. Now notice the two exposed sections on the back of this piece.
These are the only sections that we will be applying adhesive to. Now this is important because if you apply
adhesive to any other section, your card is going to completely stick together. So you
only want to apply adhesive to these two exposed sections. Now use a strong adhesive like Tear
and Tape and add adhesive to both of these sections. Next we will adhere the small z
fold to the larger one. Now the most important thing about adhering the second z fold is
to ensure that the edges of the small z fold piece line up with the edges of the larger
z fold card base. So I find it easier to adhere the inside section first. So hold down the
flap on the base of the card, line up the edge of the smaller z fold with the edge of
the larger one and adhere it to the inside of the card. Now be sure to keep the card
in the accordion folded position and adhere the top section to the flap on the card base.
Okay, there you go. We have now created the double z fold. Woohoo. It’s such a fun interactive
card, isn’t it Okay, so let’s finish decorating it. So tie a little bit of lace trim around
the front section of the card. Now you can just tie it in a double knot and trim off
the ends, or you can make a cute little bow. Next stamp, a little greeting on a scrap piece
of white card stock and cut it out with your favorite shape. Add it to the front of the
card with a few dimensionals. Then for the finishing touch, simply embellish the card
with a few pearls and that’s it. How beautiful is this card Now I showed you a very basic
way to decorate this card by using some patterned paper, but you can do some embossing, use
a variety of different embellishments. You can really decorate this card any way you
like. The possibilities truly are endless. And for
more fun filled card ideas, click on the link featured at the top of your screen. Now I
have one more fun tip that I want to share with you. You can actually change the look
of this card simply by adhering the patterned paper over the top of the second z fold instead
of underneath. So let me show you what that looks like. So this first card features the
double z fold and adhered it over the top of the patterned paper. And the second card
features the double z fold section underneath the patterned paper. Now we use the exact
same measurements to create the z folds for both of these cards. The only difference is
how I adhered that top piece of the patterned paper. So it’s a simple modification that
just really changes up the look of the card. Now you have a fun double z fold card idea
that you can use with any stamps set or any patterned papers that you have on hand. Just
get creative with it. And if you enjoyed this video, feel free to download the printable
