How to Fold the Origami Bonsai Long Narrow Leaf

I’m going to show you how fold the long narrow leaf I start with the square piece of paper on one side and I painted it with
one coat of green paint and on the other side that’s going to face out
I painted it with four coats of paint. I paint this side with just one layer so the paper won’t curl so much. and we begin by folding the square in half diagonally just like that and then we unfold it and now we fold this edge to the fold we just made like this just like that and now we fold the other edge to the center line and because the edges of this leaf are so
thick I’m going to use my wall paper roller to just sharpen those folds now we fold the bottom up I’m using this edge to align it and unfold it and now we fold the other edge up using this side to align it just like that now we flip it and we need to put a fold right across at the intersection of those two folds and unfold it now we flip it again now we need to take these two corners
and bring them to the middle it gets done just like that and this flap just folds down automatically this is going to form the stem the first thing we do to create the stem is we
fold the two edges in it’s done just like this now the next step involves reversing a
fold so I’m going to sharpen these edges
a sharp fold reverses easily and I open it and I push those sides to the inside the next step we fold this narrow flap down that’s going to form the stem now we narrow the stem now I close this flap I mean fold it in half see we’ve got a little stem here so the next step is to narrow the lead itself so I’m going to fold this top edge down to the center like that and give it a roll and then I’m going to fold this edge down to the center just like that give that a roll do the same thing I’m going to fold my stem up so it’s out of my way and I do the same thing on the
other side to the center roll it now to the center again one problem with the long narrow leaf is that this paper can come unfolded over time and one way to secure it is to add a curl to the leaf and all I do is I pinch at the base of the stem and I pinch a curl into the other end of the leaf and what this does is it adds some tension down here so that the paper won’t unfold and this should stay folded for a lifetime just by adding this curl now another issue with this leaf is that is its heavy we’ve got four layers of paper here so it’s
the heaviest leaf in our leaf arsenal and because of that we have to be a little
bit careful about balancing sculptures the weight it just so happens I have a sculpture
right here you can take a look at this but you can see that I’ve very equally balanced these leaves around the base so you want to keep an eye on that as you’re
assembling sculptures to make sure that you don’t end up with a tipsy sculpture thank you for watching
