How to Decorate with Stencils : Stencils: Stencil Design Projects on Paper

Hi my name is Brenda and we are continuing
onto our project of stenciling today. The best idea I have to do a stenciling project
is first to practice on a piece of paper. Never go directly to your project because
you could make an error and it is much easier to work on a piece of paper and get some great
ideas and then you can transfer it to your wall where there are other projects you need
to do. I am using the ivy pattern today here and I have a piece of paper under the template
and I am just going to tape it down my little ivy template. I’m going to put some acrylic
paint in my paper plate. You can use acrylic paint or old paint or you can use stenciling
paint. I just prefer to use the acrylic paint. I am just dabbing like this and I am taking
the excess off. We don’t want a lot of paint on our paint brush so I am trying to get the
excess off and now I am ready to go to the project. I am starting right here on my leaves
and I am doing a dabbing motion as you can tell here. Getting a little more paint on
my brush. We don’t use strokes like we would in painting. We are using a dabbing motion
such as this. This keeps it clean and it also keeps it from going up under the template
because we don’t want to have that where it will be smeared underneath. Just keep going
like this. I am ready to look at my project and see kind of what things look like. I’m
going to lift this up and take this off.
