How to Color Your Own Glitter – Inktoberfest Day 17

hi everyone welcome back to inktoberfest so today I have a really cool technique for you that I think you’re
absolutely gonna love and it’s all about this tonic Nouveau pure Sheen glitter in
ice whites you can also use their diamond one but you know it’s kind of
personal preference but both of them will work perfectly for this and how
they pair really well with the Ranger alcohol inks my own little bonus for you
with the same technique but really I want to show you how to do this one
first so I was going to take a little medicine
cups you can also use those sore spots anything small like that but nothing
you’re going to really want to put food in again and then put some glitter in I
mean however much you think you might need this is a really nice glitter
because it’s kind of white kind of translucent and it works really well for
this particular technique it takes the color and it still has all of that
shimmer afterwards so that’s why I particularly like this one and then you
want to take whatever color of alcohol ink your the coordinates with your
project now I have tried different alcohol inks I mean I’ve been through
the spectrum I don’t recommend using pearls for this technique with the
glitter doesn’t work as well you’ll get different results it’s just because the
my car in it I have also tried the Copic reading because they do work some of the
other alcoholics that I use for backgrounds really well don’t work as
well for this just because they’re a little bit translucent but play around
and you’ll find something that works for you now you’re not gonna need much
alcohol ink I kind of start with maybe around the three drop mark and what
you’re gonna do is then take your craft spoon and start stirring and you’ll
notice it starts plumping first of all and then the magic starts to happen so
you can see how this is going and this is kind of is the alcohol mixes in and
everything evaporates out but what I’m creating is my own custom color of
glitter and I just think that this technique is super awesome now I’ve seen
other people do I’ve seen him do it with he’s rock candy glitter that for me is a
little too chunky I prefer something a bit
and as the alcohol evaporates off your glitter goes back to the old texture so
the minutes a little bit clumpy but as that alcohol evaporate you’ll find it
just goes straight back down to the odd that’s why it doesn’t look like I’m
using much but you can see like all of that has gone in if you want a darker
shade add a bit more but really you don’t need much alcohol ink so you can
play around but I’ve done some experimenting and for me this glitter
just works really really well and you’ll be in this week’s selection over at
tonic you can go in and check it out and of course if you’re a parks member
you can get $20 off of $50 purchase or a month long which is amazing which means
you can also get your Tim Holtz lefty mat your travel mat all those fun things
with that discount too so I’m just giving this a nice stir and I’m going to
pop it on to one of my tags so of course we’re going to go in and I’m gonna write
on here so color my own glitter it’s not just the coolest idea that you can have
any color of glitter imagine you’ve made an alcoholic background and now you want
to color it and have glitter just to highlight certain accents you can do
this so add Nuvo it was the ice white I always have this one on my shelf with
like a little dot in front of it so I know it’s this one to bowl and then it’s
two to three drops of ink not much at all and stir and then just wait for the
alcohol to evaporate and that’s it you can see now I have that super shimmery
sparkly glitter again and you can see it’s nice and fine then you can store
this if you have some these little pots you can store them this way and that
works really really well too I’m just going to add some deluxe adhesive on
here and off you go so like this make sure it’s all over my glue and
again these the same tags whoops we’ve been using the whole way through look at that I have my own Lila glitter
and the more alcohol ink I add the darker that will get you can clean up
with your surface sweep it’s it really really easy awesome technique and that I
swear as I say it’s a nice fine glitter if for me I do like rock candy for
certain things it’s great for adding lots of texture but I do prefer a finer
glitter and it did take me a long time to find that fine glitter that I could
do this technique with and it would still hold that shimmer afterwards a lot
of glitters you’ll do this and when you cover up the blister with the alcohol
ink you don’t keep any of the shimmer but you can see they still have all that
shimmer in this so that’s a mark of a good quality glitter but I have a bonus
for you as I mentioned if you take one of those favorites or spots of mine you
know how many of these I love and you can take power now again you can go and
buy really expensive pearls from various brands I’m not gonna mention go you can
go and borrow those or on Amazon I have found these kinds of packages and I can
buy small ones I can buy big ones we’ll make sure we live in for you in the
description in the link dolly you know all those things for you unless you
mention we have a discount code off at Ranger so pop it in the blog post and it
will pop it in the description below for you too but you can see well make sure
you have a little bit of room in your top and then what we’re gonna do is
we’re gonna add some alcoholic so just add a splosh splosh being the technical
term I’m sure and then we start shaking you want to get a good shake again you see I didn’t add much I’m just
giving it a bitch shake around and now when I look at them they kind of look
distressed so what I could do is I could either
and so this shine on here that’s not the light that is actually just some silver
areas that’s still open if I kind of have my hand there and so you have a
couple of options you could either leave them distress because sometimes we want
that depending on our project as I say you can do it small ones too
you can do it with some sequins again I kind of had to refine that technique I’m
not kind of perfected which is why I haven’t added them in here you can also
now go and add another color so I could add a couple of drops here so first of
all I added crimson and now I’m adding bothell I did my glitter in a purple
Twilight so we’ll make sure they lit up for you you can make them look boiler
fix and every single batch you do or end up slightly different do this people say
about not sealing I’m not sure about I would probably always seal if I’m gonna
make jewelry but look at this how I can make custom look at that veining look at
how distressed and call these look I’m going to just grab myself a piece of
card stock to put these on so you can see them look at that so no they just
show up better this way but you know they’re pretty much dry already but
they’ve got all of that patina on them just from adding some really cool things
in and you can just you know if I wanted to be right person and I don’t know I
have no idea how the Purple’s going to come out and that was quite a lot of
purple that I shook in there don’t like what you’ve got add some blending
solution white alcohol if you have really big ones you could do this on
ornaments and then you alcohol lift ink on the outside that’s a Christmas technique coming up
but again you know I’ve just added some more patina to them actually they came
out super cool wasn’t sure how that purple would look put them on here where
they’re drying but they now have like a pinky sheen over the top and they just
look super cool I mean they’re just really really awesome and I just roll
them around here so you can see just kind of how that came out on there yeah
really really cool how that came out so there is another just bonus technique
but really for me it’s the glitter is my favorite but you can do the same with
embellishments you can do on any kind of metal embellishment pearls work brakes
of course they’re white or you could just sew an embellishment first and then
use this technique so that today’s inktober fest tip join me tomorrow for
even more check out the Ranger coupon check out the blog post check out our
