Hanalei Bay Sand Castle Contest – Life on Kauai Vlog – Riding a Motorcycle in Hawaii

This morning I’m heading up north to
Hanalei with my still swollen bee face to The 8th annual Hawaii Sand Festival where I’m going to be judging the sandcastle contest. Hanalei is only about 30 minutes away from my house in Kapaa. And I don’t even have to be there till 11:00. But I’ve decided to get out here a little earlier that way I don’t
have to deal with the traffic that will usually backup dropping into the valley.
Especially on the weekend during an event on a beautiful Hawaiian day. Now
the sand castle contest, this is about the eighth year that it’s been going on.
And the third year of me being a judge. I got into it via friend Kat who introduced me to Julian and who is one of the masterminds behind this event. I am not sure who I’m going to be judging with this time around. We are the official judges of this year’s Sand Festival. Yep What your name? Troy Troy and I’m… you know I am. It’s always a super fun event with a really good turnout and a lot of really
artistic folks out there playing in the sand. The website, if I’m not mistaken, is
Hawaiisandcastle.com As I mentioned, I got zapped by a Bee in the face this week. Third time in the last two years that I’ve got nailed by my little Bee
braddahs. And this one happened right before I was supposed to meet this
lovely woman who I met named Claire who’s traveling out here from the U.K.
Claire is a photographer, a traveler, a very funny lovely girl. And I had a really nice time chatting with her. She also shared a poem with me
which I’m going to share with you once I get all my other hubba bubba taken care
of. Another set of travelers I met with a penchant for wanderlust were Megh
Cris who were out here from Pennsylvania And I got to talking to them and they
were admiring whiskers and telling me about how they are planning to do a big
motorcycle trip to South America at one point. So when they saw my picture of El
Taco Vato, it really spoke to them. So they went ahead and bought a print and I totally appreciate that! Now on my own trip to Alaska, which is getting closer and closer by the day, Were less than a week out. I’ve been cleaning up my studio and organizing things and pack of things aways I’ve also bought a few more pieces of gear that I thought would be handy to have with me. I bought the Zhiyun Q3 gimbal which is a three axis gimbal for the iPhone which will really help to make my photography and my video much better. And take away some of the coffee shakes
that I usually seem to have in my handheld shots. Ialso bought a couple dry bags from Unigear. I started off with a couple of 25 liter one. One for me one for Sasquatch. But once they arrived and he got a look at them he thought they might be a little small. So we decide to get a couple bigger ones. So I went and ordered another 40 liter one to complement the 25 liter which should
do it… hopefully I also be playing around with a couple new apps. One of which is the Filmic Pro, Which totally levels up your video game because it gives you so much control over your focus, your aperture along with other controls on your camera. So I’ve been playing around a lot with
that as well as an app called Movie Looks, which is a color grading app. Which is
okay, it does the job. But it’s kind of lacking some features that I would like
to see like presets, that sort of thing. And the other last thing that I’ve been doing is just collecting some copyright free songs so I don’t have to look for music
while we’re out on the streets. I’ve also been making my intros and outros. So everything that I can put together for the trip as far as video goes is ready to go. Well I’m going to turn out here at the shopping center and load up on some snacks and some water before we drop into the valley. (music) You will find me wandering the aisles of
the bookstore. Rummaging through books old and new, Trying to take my mind away from you. Fingering gently through the musty pages Reliving love through the ages. Finely sifting sea glass is where I’ll be. In a world of my own another time and place. It’s where I’m most happy in my own space. The hunt thrills and excites me. who knows what I’ll find in my own world by the sea. I’m laying quietly contemplating life under a starry sky. Dreaming of a universe, galaxy something more than us. we are merely but a spec of dust. Nothing else matters when you look up at that mesmerizing sky. Being present in the moment.
Here is where I could happily die. (music)
