Duo competes at Sandfest for first time as a married couple


the ten 22nd annual Texas sand Fest has kicked off it’s one of the largest master sand sculpting competitions in the world and it’s happening right now in Puerto rancis more than 50,000 people turned out for last year’s event and organizers really want to top that figure this year Texas and fest runs through Sunday so you have three days to go now for one sculpting duo this year sand Fest will be different because they’re going to be competing as a married couple for the first time Cris 6 News reporter Ashley Portillo tells us how they carved out their place in San Fest history the 2018 Texas sand fest marks the sixth year these two master sculptors have competed but it’s the first time the two have sculpted together as a married couple we met here we had a connection we did start falling in love the two met here at San Fest in 2012 and two years ago a proposed Morgan on this stage and the rest is history the two tied the knot in May of 2017 almost one year later and they’re boning a sculpture called the old ball-and-chain a dedication to their relationship as they are now tied together it’s great you know it’s something we both love to do so it’s really nice that we can come together and do it together a couple adds they hope to continue the tradition of competing with one another a Texas and fest we feel very rooted into the community here and every time we come back I think in ways that’s even a refresher for our own relationship ashley Portillo chris 6 News that seems like a really fun couple all right so for the time being Morgan and Abe are gonna have a long-distance marriage she lives in San Francisco he lives in Prince Edward Island Canada and the couple just gets together at events like Sam fest we wish them the best of luck
