– I really love watching the students create and express themselves
and grow from their artwork. I’m Kiri Crommett, and I’m the art teacher at Avon Park High School. So, today what we’re gonna do is just review a couple of artists and resources. I don’t feel like my students
have a lot of exposure to art outside the classroom,
and a lot of these kids are going through really
tough times at home, or in their social lives, and they feel like they have no outlet. – I see art as a way to relieve stress and just, kind of like, to have
more control over something. – They can use their media
to really show how they feel, but if it weren’t for art class, a lot of these kids would never paint. They would never use clay, they would never do sculptures
or anything like that. Arts programs in the education system are not funded as much as other programs. The Drive 4 UR School program has really benefited my
program in particular. It allows me to take
students on field trips, it allows me to buy sketchbooks for kids that can’t afford them otherwise. It’s super important for us. We rely on it. (uplifting music) (students excitedly talking) (all gasp in amazement) – I never really thought of
my art as something serious, and so seeing it in such
a serious environment means everything to me. – It was crazy, it was so surreal. I just started crying,
I started tearing up. I was trying to hold it back. – Seeing my piece on the wall
really meant a lot to me. There’s a lot of people appreciating it. It just really moved
me, it was really cool. – Seeing the artwork on the walls, it makes it real for them, and achievable. I mean, that’s what we work for, to see those kids inspired. And I think that that’s
really what it’s all about. It’s to motivate everyone. Motivate the teachers,
motivate the community, their parents, to be really supportive of them and their artistic endeavors. (uplifting music)
