Batman Begins (1/6) Movie CLIP – The Will to Act (2005) HD

My anger outweighs my guilt. Come. [taut adventure theme playing] Ducard:
You have learned to bury
your guilt with anger. I will teach you to confront it
and to face the truth. [ice creaks] You know how to fight six men. We can teach you
how to engage 600. You know how to disappear. We can teach you
to become truly invisible. Invisible? Avi! The ninja understands
that invisibility Is a matter of patience
and agility. [ice creaks] Always mind your surroundings. Ninjitsu employs
explosive powders. As weapons? Or distractions. Theatricality and deception
are powerful agents. You must become
more than just a man In the mind of your opponent. [man yells in tibetan] Bruce:
Who is he? He was a farmer. Then he tried to take
his neighbor’s land And became a murderer. Now he is a prisoner. What’ll happen to him? Justice. Crime cannot be tolerated. Criminals thrive On the indulgence of
society’s understanding. [ice creaks] Your parents’ death
was not your fault. It was your father’s. Anger does not change the fact
that your father failed to act. The man had a gun. Would that stop you?

  1. I'm going to be open-minded for a moment. As a Batman fan and a hardcore follower of his "no kill" rule, I will admit: Affleck's Batman could have worked. There were just one big problem: No Proper Introduction.

I don't complain that Keaton's Batman acts differently from Bale's because it clearly established to take place in a different universe than Bale's. The 1989 Batman movie introduced us to the character and took its time to show us how and why he did what he did, thus we accepted him. Synder never did that. He just threw this new, grittier Batman at us and expected us to just go with it. He was too focused on rushing into the "Batman vs Superman" premise.

IMO, casual, non-comic reading fans (probably the majority of audience members) like myself would have accepted this version of Batman if there had been an introduction movie. I don't mean another origin movie (I'm sick of seeing the death of his parents over and over again). I mean a movie that introduces us to this version of Batman and explains why he acts so much colder and more ruthless than the Batman we're familiar with. For example, have the movie deal with Batman losing Robin to the Joker (as BVS implied happened). Have the death of his parter (and son figure) be the tipping point where Batman finally loses it, knocks the Joker's teeth out (to explain the grill), and starts killing criminals. Then, make BVS. As much as I disliked Man of Steel, at least it took its time to introduce us to Superman and explained his morals and beliefs.

This is what frustrates me so much about Synder's vision of the DC universe. There are things I like about Affleck's Batman, but his story so far has been crap! Synder needs to either go back and make an intro movie for Affleck's Batman or hand the character over to a more patient and competent director!

  2. I don't know if I'm just over analyzing it, but notice how in Batman Begins, Thomas Wayne didn't do anything, so Raj was trying to make a point of him not doing anything, even when Bruce said he had a gun, Raj says that wasn't supposed to stop him. How beautiful is it, that in Dawn of Justice, whether you like the movie or not, in the beginning, Thomas Wayne decided to act, and try to stop the mugger, which as I recall is the 1st time in the depiction of the Wayne's murder, that Thomas Wayne actually tried to do something.

  3. I went into this movie expecting to be disappointed but left very impressed with bale better batman then affleck.

  4. Batman Begins , my all time favourite was "Batman" and its immersing character development with outstanding Liam Neeson. TDK too was iconic, but was more centered around the Joker, gradually second-fiddling Batman. This scene is just epic

  5. My beloved Batman&Bruce Wayne forever – Christian Bale. Charismatic, complex, smart, with a swag, smooth, unique. Multi-layered, subtle performance; where even short glance of his eyes behind the mask mattered. Where his voice was as dark as him&very much part of his Batman persona, but this was for grown-ups not kids, who only love when Batman punches others or gets shiny toys.

  6. People who say batman dont have any superpowers they are wrong.he has the superpower that no other superhero has.The Will.

  7. I can't possibly the only one thinking "It can't be that long ago since the movie came out". I swear after you've turned 18, time just flies.

  8. Theatricality and deception are powerful agents to the uninitiated. But we are initiated, aren't we Bruce? Member of the League of Shadows.

  9. "He was a farmer, and then he tried to take his farmer's land and became a murderer, now he's a prisoner."
Always loved that line, but now that I think about it, I realize that Bruce has to kill Dent in TDK, and ultimately is imprisoned by Bane in TDKR, so there's definitely some parallels here.
