Heritage There lived one merchant. He spent the whole his life in gathering wealth. He was busy with transporting, buying and selling the goods. Grown up in a poor family he achieved success and wealth himself. He knew worth of labor and the money. He had wife and two sons. And merchant was satisfied with his life. He especially loved his elder son. Merchant was spoiling and doing everything for him. And father was never hiding this difference. He was always seeing a successor in his elder son, but the boy was not expressing interest in his father’s business. Boy was spending the whole days and doing anything as he wanted. Wife didn’t like her husband’s such stubbornness. She was sorry for her younger son and she was trying to pay more attention to him. Time was passing and merchant was getting older. One day he called his wife and told her, that he was going to leave the whole wealth to his elder son. Wife began to cry: “Why are you doing such an unfair thing? Why are you leaving your second child without anything?” “I’m not turning him out of the house, if he wants, he will live here.” – didn’t give up the merchant. The wife couldn’t do anything; the only thing she asked him was not to say anything to his sons, until she would think over something. But she couldn’t thing over anything herself and went to the old wise man for advice. “My children are the same for me, I love both of them equally and I don’t want any of them to be oppressed. But my husband wants his elder son to leave everything, and give nothing to the younger. I got no wealth myself and I can’t help the second boy.” The wise man thought and said to mother: “Your husband won’t change his mind, so it’s better to tell your children soon, which of them got wealth and which of them got just hope. Don’t worry, if you say it timely, the younger son will help himself. But tell them that you love both of them equally and this wealth has only terrestrial value.” She believed the old man. That same evening, father called his sons and told them everything. Younger boy quietly listened to father’s decision. Elder sin said nothing, as if it was obvious. The mother was very nervous; she was worried about her son. After a while younger son left his father’s house and went to work and study in a foreign country. He knew that he would have to place reliance only on himself. He learned craft well, mastered the science. He became very well-known and respectable person. Meanwhile his elder brother was petting in his father’s house. He was spending the whole days in entertaining and idleness; he wasn’t interested neither in studies nor in learning any craft. Time passed. Younger boy became very famous and rich person. Elder one wasted the whole wealth. He learned nothing and didn’t know how to care for himself. Gratuitous heritage made elder brother decrepit and poor, but younger brother who was entrusted to himself became a glorious person in life.
