The donkey and the well There was one old donkey; he was devotedly serving to his owner whole life. The donkey was never complaining about his fate. He always knew that he had to work and was diligently doing everything what he was told by his owner. The donkey lived and worked together with the other animals. The owner was properly taking care of his donkey, and was appraising its work. Years were passing. Donkey got old. He couldn’t work hard and quickly anymore; was easily getting tired and couldn’t carry heavy thing anymore. Once disturbed from heat and tired donkey went to the well. He thought to rest a little and to drink some water. Donkey looked down into the well but he couldn’t see any water. “Probably, I can’t see very well” – thought donkey, looked down deeply and as he was no more able to hold himself, donkey fell down into the well. It turned out that well was dry for a long time. Frightened donkey started to scream. He was calling to his owner. Donkey could not get out of the well himself. Soon the owner heard his yelling. Ran to the well, looked down, saw the donkey and was very surprised and confused. “It’s impossible to take out the donkey – thought the owner “he is already very old, anyway he couldn’t live for a long time. I was still going to buy a new donkey. Also the well is dry and needs to be filled up. I’ll do two things at the same time: fill up the well and the donkey won’t suffer too much.” The man took a spade and began filling the well with the sand. As some sand fell on the donkey’s back, poor donkey guessed everything. He started begging and screaming loudly, but no one paid attention to the donkey. Soon donkey stopped screaming and no voice was heard from the well. The owner thought – “the donkey must be buried already” and continued his job to fully fill up the well. After a few minutes the owner decided to look down into the well and was surprised. As he was pouring the sand into the well, donkey was shaking sand off his back and was compressing it with his legs. Such way the well was filling up and donkey was slowly going to the top. The owner was happy and surprised how wisely and adroitly donkey was doing everything. The owner began to pour more and more sand into the well. He felt guilty, as he saw how the animal was fighting for its life. Donkey was reaching to the top. And soon owner saw donkey’s head, ran toward him and helped to get out of the well finally. “I didn’t think if it was possible to rescue you – said embarrassed owner to the donkey – that’s why I decide to bury you and to facilitate your suffer. But you proved me that no one should lose the hope.” In our life may happen many unpleased things, we can meet a lot of seemingly invincible troubles, but it depends on us either heavy stones and sand will bury us or we can make the hill from those stones and sand and get on the top of it. If we do not give up and surrender we can get even out of the deepest well.
